Mr. Batson possessed an astute business sense, a visionary spirit, and a gift for building successful enterprises. He brought a wealth of knowledge and experience concerning acquisition strategy and enterprise development to InterFuze Corporation. As the company founder, Mr. Batson led the acquisition of several small businesses to integrate diverse capabilities and talent into the InterFuze portfolio.
Before forming InterFuze, he was the co-founder, Chairman, and Chief Executive Officer of Camber Corporation. During his 25+ year career with Camber, he led the company from a startup of three employees to more than 2,000 staff and annual revenues approaching $500 million. Part of this growth was from strategic acquisitions and a strategy for diversification that allowed Camber to grow in complex markets. Mr. Batson steered Camber into a 100% ESOP and later, the acquisition by New Mountain Capital. He remained Chairman of the Board until Camber was purchased by Huntington Ingalls Industries (HII) in 2016.
Throughout his life, Mr. Batson was actively engaged in civic and community leadership, with a special passion for the ARC of Madison County, where he served on their Board. Mr. Batson is a graduate of the University of Alabama. In October 2017, he was inducted into the Bryant Society in recognition of his years of dedication to the university. He was also a member of The University of Alabama’s Culverhouse College Board of Visitors and a board member of Biztech, which supports small start-ups.
Mr. Batson was inducted into the Alabama Business Hall of Fame in 2022. This achievement is awarded to individuals that are heavily committed to their communities, served in leadership roles on boards, donated their time and resources to causes, and inspired future generations of business leaders.
Sadly, we lost Walter on February 1, 2023. He was a colleague, mentor, and friend to many. He will be greatly missed. In his absence, InterFuze is committed to Walter’s vision for the company.
